The Business

“[The film business is] a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There is also a negative side.” -Hunter S. Thompson
You can through the theatre business into that quote as well. I got my rejection letter from USD on Friday. I am stressed about the future. Not the immediate, but the long term. The questions of how will I support my family? Will I have to give up acting to do that? I am also reading Janet Blatcher’s blog. She just had to give up her house due to some writing jobs that her and her husband did not get. Will that be me in 5-10 years? My wife summed it up correctly when she said, “Someone told you once to follow your dreams…and you listened”. Damn me!

There is nothing worse than having a casting director, or director, seem not interested during an audition because they have seen a monologue way too many times. Check out the e-book to see if your audition monologues are considered over done.
