Offers In, Decision Made

March 8, 2006 by Dennis Baker

The offers have come in and the graduate school decision has been made. The school chosen is Rutgers University in New Jersey. We will be visiting the school the first week of April, after coming back from Europe. I will sit in on classes, we will tour the hospital Karen hopes to work at, and we will go look at condos to purchase. After auditioning for three years, this is a major relief. It feels great to be able to finally go to graduate school. We also found out that my old roommate, Jordan, is doing his dental specialty at NYU. I also just found out that an old high school friend, Ashley, lives 40 minutes away. That will be two people we know on the east coast.

I recieved offers from Iowa, and Indiana was seemed to be stalling, so I told them not to send me an offer as I already has my first choice.

Hello, random stranger that I’ve never met…;o)

I’ve been having trouble finding out if anyone from U/RTA has heard anything whatsoever from Alabama Shakes in the form of interest and/ or an offer and thought you might know someone who has, as this Jersey gal has only her East Coast frame of reference. Same with UMKC. I made their short list, received a few personal phone calls and nothing in a few weeks.

Enjoy Mason Gross. I’ve had many friends whom have attended the school. It’s a tough, tough program that can be a bit overwhelming in terms of the stringent use of Meisner.

If you do know anything regarding Alabama or UMKC, I will check replies here.

    Hi Bethany,

Persoanlly I auditioned for Alabama and UMKC. I have not heard anything, nor do I know anyone who has. There is a great website to check subject matter in millions of blogs. The website is http://www.technorati.com

Go ahead and type is some references like “MFA, UMKC, Alabama Shakespeare” and see what you find.

I have taken two years of Meisner and have heard how intense the program at Rutgers can be. I am excited and look forward to the hard work. Congrats on making the short list, let me know what comes of it.

    dennis,

i don’t know much of the area. i have two friends who are in that area (co-workers) though who i have asked to give me pointers on where to look for housing. i will get back to you when i hear back from them. they are awesome yl people who seem to love their churches out there. you’ll have to meet them!!

personally i would say go as west as you can in jersey. i don’t know how much of a commute you want but you should really check it out when you come out here. it’s safer the more west you go…and prettier. jersey altogether is pretty expensive. have you been here before??? it’s not nearly as bad as people say. i like it a lot, actually.:)

if i can help you two in any way let me know. i know it can be rough moving from one coast to another. if you want me to show you two around when you are here i’d be happy to. it’s really nice where i live. i live in hunterdon county.

thanks for the encouragement! brown was my top choice, it’s just wicked expensive! congrats to you. i heard a lot of really great things about rutgers, i just wound up not auditioning for them. i’d love to do ntc or usd/old globe, because they’re great programs AND they pay full tuition. oh the decisions. i feel fortunate to have gotten accepted my first year trying, and now i know the ropes if i have to come around again next year. congrats to you!!!!

Thanks Charlie. I heard you were on the east coast for a stint. Would love to hear your insight…

Arnold, It was nice to see you too at Newsong. Sorry I did not stick around to say hi. I was looking for George, which later found to be impossible because he already had left.
