MFA Acting Graduate School Auditions

I have applied to graduate school for an MFA in acting. Along with the normal paper work I also have to audition. An organization called U/RTA is created to help students audition for schools that are not in there area. Representatives from 15-20 schools go each year to New York, Chicago, and San Francisco. Candidates audition for the schools all at one time instead of having to go to each individual school. The Bakers will be leaving for Chicago on Saturday. I have decided to audition in Chicago instead of San Francisco because some schools choose not to go out West as auditioner turn out is lower. Below is my audition schedule…

Saturday, Jan. 22nd
UC San Diego: Auditions were held in Hollywood. After the audition they would decided if they wanted to see you at a callback held later in the day. I was not called back.

Cal Arts: I was the only MFA candidate in the afternoon sessions. The rest were BFA candidates. I met a mother who was from Colorado and came out with her daughter to audition at Cal Arts and APU. Small world. As for the audition they asked to see a second Shakespeare monologue and then asked me why I wanted to go to graduate school. I could not tell if asking for a second monologue was a good or bad thing.

Sunday, Feb. 5th
U/RTA: This will be my preliminary audition. I must first audition for a panel of four judges who will determine if I can audition the next day for graduate schools. Yes, there is a chance of flying all the way to Chicago and not actually auditioning for the schools, but we won’t talk about that. Below are the schools that will be there, not all have MFA acting programs…

I performed a lot in high school because I went to a performing arts high school. However, my college had a very weak theater program and now I am looking to obtain a master’s in theater. Any suggestions on how I should start, what to reserach or who to talk to?
