Weekend Retreat

October 18, 2006 by dennisbaker

Things are getting busy as we are entering mid-terms. Other than having an individual meeting with our acting instructor, there is no major things we are doing for mid-terms.

We are leaving this weekend for a retreat in up state New York. We will spend the weekend with three teachers. Deborah, our acting instructor, will be there. We will be reading and discussing “The Country Wife” with her. It is the first play of next semester and also the first play the MFA I actors are eligible to audition for. We will also do some movement with Lloyd Williamson. He originated the movement technique that was named after him. Until a couple of years ago it was the main movement technique taught at Rutgers. We will also have some time with the second year acting instructor Lenard Petit. His inspiration has been Michael Checkhov. It will be interesting to get a taste of what we will be doing next year.

As for classes right now, what I am generally feeling is a state of deconstruction. I am beginning to recognize bad habits. Our voice teacher calls it a state of conscious incompetence. I am beginning to know where I am and where glimpses of where I need to go. Now is the slow process of getting there…
